The fact that the human being is destroying the world is something we cannot ignore. The poles are melting and as a result of this, the sea level is rising, seas are becoming more polluted because we are constantly throwing rubbish to them, and some species are becoming extinct because of our lack of respect towards the environment. Only when we become aware of climate change and the serious consequences it has, will it be possible to solve this problem. So, how could we make people become more environmentally friendly?
Nowadays, the media plays an essential part in our life and we have much more access to it than we used to thanks to the new technologies. That is why, a message reaches a larger group of people much faster because we can use new communication systems. We could use them to battle climate change by broadcasting more programmes, such as documentaries, news or even advertisements, explaining what global climate change is, speaking about the importance of this issue and how we could contribute to stopping it.
It will take us a long time to settle this problem, so we should teach children to look after the environment from an early age. Maybe, this can be taught at schools by carrying out some projects with them, or explaining that it isn’t necessary to use so much plastic. For example, instead of keeping their material in plastic boxes, teachers should tell them to use fabric boxes.
Apart from schools, children should learn to care about the environment from their parents and older siblings. They are usually role models to small children, so if they see them recycling or using less plastic on a daily basis, they will do the same and when they grow older, they will also teach this lesson to their offspring.
The more we respect our planet, the better we will live in the future. Greta Thunberg said “ Do not act as if the house was not on fire, because it is” and I cannot agree more with her. We have to save our planet, not only thinking of ourselves, but of the ones that will come next.
